Above Kostos Village, Paros Island - Cyclades - Greece

Studio Yria is located on a mountain top in an isolated and pristine enviroment. The demonstrations will take place outside in the courtyards.

DATES
June 24, 25, 26, 27 / 2005
A four day symposium of master pithoi (large jar) throwers will take place with demonstrations from 9:00 a.m. through out the day.

THE MASTERS
Paul Chaleff, U.S.A.
Recognized master of the japanese anagama firing technique as well as the creator of large scale ceramic vessels and sculpture.

Julian Stair, U.K.
Julian’s most current work is a series of lided jars and life size sarcophagi made at a brick factory in the U.K. This work was launched and awarded at collect in the victoria and albert museum.

Ioannis Lembessy, Sifnos Island - Greece
Nicolas Kavkalakis, Crete
Enourmous storage jars from the Greek Islands date back to 2000 BC. These two well known masters from the islands still producing pithoi using ancient techniques will demonstrate their skills.
